Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP)

Presentation of Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes

Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP) are short, intensive academic programmes jointly developed by at least 3 higher education institutions within the Erasmus+ KA131 programme with Programme Countries. These include physical mobility and virtual activities, utilizing innovative learning and teaching methods.

Duration of Blended Intensive Programmes: between 5 and 30 days of physical activity, plus a mandatory virtual component.

General Rules:
  • Applications for organizing Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes within UAIC are submitted to the Erasmus+ Office (BE+); these are funded from the Erasmus+ KA131 institutional grant;
  • Blended Intensive Programmes must bring added value compared to existing study programmes within the participating higher education institutions and can be multi-annual;
  • The virtual component must bring learners together online to work collectively and simultaneously on specific tasks integrated into the blended intensive programme and must be taken into account when calculating overall learning outcomes;
  • Blended Intensive Programmes develop the capacity for designing and implementing innovative teaching and learning practices in participating higher education institutions;
  • Blended Intensive Programmes will be carried out based on a written agreement signed by the consortium partners before the activities begin.
Eligibility Criteria:
  • A blended intensive programme must be developed and implemented by at least 3 higher education institutions holding an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), coming from at least 3 Erasmus+ Programme countries, one of which acts as the coordinator;
  • Students participating in blended intensive programmes must receive at least 3 ECTS credits through the combination of virtual and physical mobility;
  • Higher education institutions from a KA131 Programme country holding an Erasmus Charter can send students and staff to participate in blended intensive programmes with funding from the Programme and also benefit from financial support for their organization;
  • Higher education institutions from partner countries (non-EU) can send participants with Erasmus+ funding but do not receive funding for the organization and implementation of the programmes.
Eligible Participants (Learners):
  • Students enrolled in a higher education institution, in study programmes leading to a recognized degree, up to and including the doctoral level;
  • Staff from higher education institutions (teaching, research, or administrative staff).
Teaching and Training Staff involved in the delivery (Trainers):
  • Staff from higher education institutions in a KA131 Programme country;
  • Staff from companies or public/private organizations active in the labor market or in the fields of education, training, youth, research, and innovation, invited to teach at a higher education institution in a KA131 Programme country.
Selection Stages and Timeline:
  • Submission of expressions of interest for organizing blended intensive programmes can be done throughout the academic year.
  • Expressions of interest must be sent to the Erasmus+ Office at least 3 months before the start of the planned activities.
  • Funding will be granted in the chronological order of submission of the expressions of interest, following verification of compliance with the eligibility criteria.
Funding Erasmus+ funding for institutions organizing a blended intensive programme is 400 Euro / participant, for a minimum of 15 participants and a maximum of 20 participants, and can cover costs directly related to the organization of the intensive programmes (excluding subsistence and travel costs for participants).

Types of costs covered by the Erasmus+ grant:
  • Costs related to the preparation, design, development, implementation, and monitoring of the programme and the delivery of virtual activities, as well as general management and coordination (e.g., personnel costs).
  • Costs may include: production of documents or educational materials, room rental, equipment rental, excursions, communication activities, translation and interpretation, preparatory visits, and administrative tasks, excluding subsistence and travel costs for participants.

Blended Intensive Programme – Resilience Beyond Borders: Human Rights in a Challenging World

Iaşi, Romania, 2 – 6 March 2026

Between 2 – 6 March 2026, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (UAIC), under the coordination of Teaching Assistant Irina-Cristina Pachița, organized the blended intensive programme Resilience Beyond Borders: Human Rights in a Challenging World, attended by 51 students from Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, and Slovakia. The programme integrated theory, practice, and ethical reflection to analyze how human rights and resilience can be promoted through education, intercultural dialogue, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Through its modules, the programme encouraged participants to explore the role of human rights education in forming a culture of respect and solidarity, to debate the impact of globalization and inequality on cultural diversity, to understand the ethical challenges generated by pluralism and the use of digital technologies, and to discover practical ways to promote social cohesion by respecting differences. It also addressed individual and collective resilience in contexts of crisis and marginalization, encouraging empathy, critical thinking, and civic engagement.

Blended Intensive Programme – Mental Health Today: Challenges and Opportunities in a Digital World

Iaşi, Romania, 23 – 27 February 2026

Between 23 – 27 February 2026, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (UAIC), under the coordination of Lecturer Alexandra Cobzeanu, organized the blended intensive programme Mental Health Today: Challenges and Opportunities in a Digital World, attended by 41 students from Austria, Croatia, Estonia, Poland, Portugal, and Slovakia. The programme included theoretical and practical activities, exploring how digitalization and new technologies – such as social media, mobile applications, artificial intelligence, and online communities – influence mental health. It also integrated interdisciplinary perspectives from psychology, educational sciences, social work, ethics, and technology, providing a complex and nuanced understanding of the phenomenon. By combining the theoretical framework with practical applications and discussions, the programme created a space for critical reflection on the opportunities and risks that the digital environment brings to the individual and the community. The seven proposed modules addressed essential themes such as the impact of social networks on emotional well-being and interpersonal relationships, the psychological impact of social media – from digital addiction and online disinhibition to phenomena like cyberbullying and body image issues – digital accessibility and inclusion for vulnerable groups, and professional self-care strategies in a hyperconnected world. Through its holistic approach, the programme aimed to build theoretical and practical skills to help participants navigate the challenges and opportunities of mental health in an increasingly digitally connected society, contributing to the development of innovative, ethical, and individual-centered practices.

Blended Intensive Programme – Intercultural Learning, Communication and Collaboration in the Digital Age

Iaşi, Romania, 9 – 13 February 2026

Between 9 – 13 February 2026, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (UAIC), under the coordination of Prof. Daniela Popescul, PhD, organized the blended intensive programme Intercultural Learning, Communication and Collaboration in the Digital Age, attended by 23 students from the following partner universities: School of Applied Digital Technologies, Iscte-Sintra, Lisbon, Portugal; University of Granada (Ceuta Campus), Spain; and the University of Zagreb, Croatia. The main objective of the programme was to develop the intercultural and digital learning skills of the participants, considered essential competencies for their personal and professional lives. Students studied aspects related to intercultural communication in the digital environment, information and communication technologies used in teamwork, e-learning platforms, virtual learning resources, and ethics and security challenges and solutions in the virtual environment. The programme combined presentations, discussions, brainstorming exercises, and games with individual and teamwork under the supervision of professors. The online modules equipped students with the knowledge and skills necessary to engage in international mobility experiences. Learners gained insights into intercultural communication and digital learning, preparing for the challenges and opportunities they may encounter during their professional lives. Software platforms (Digicampus, Confident Cyber Café, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp) provided a virtual space used by students to learn, connect, share experiences, and collaborate.

Blended Intensive Programme – Biomolecular Horizons: Building a Sustainable Future in Life Sciences

Iaşi, Romania, 14 – 20 July 2025

Between 14 – 20 July 2025, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (UAIC), under the coordination of Assoc. Prof. Alina Brândușa PETRE, PhD Habil., organized the blended intensive programme Biomolecular Horizons: Building a Sustainable Future in Life Sciences, attended by 47 students from Austria, Armenia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, the United States of America, and Turkey. The programme offered international students both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the field of Life Sciences, combining biology and chemistry in an applied and modern setting. Topics addressed included DNA barcoding for species identification, structural biology and understanding the role of proteins in human health, the use of enzymes in daily life, innovative solutions for drug delivery, and the fight against antibiotic resistance. Activities took place in the laboratories of the Faculties of Chemistry and Biology, supported by faculty members with experience in interdisciplinary research.

Blended Intensive Programme – Hard Sciences: New Trends in Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science

Between 14 – 20 July 2025, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (UAIC), under the coordination of Prof. Ionuț TOPALĂ, PhD Habil., organized the blended intensive programme Hard Sciences: New Trends in Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science, attended by 43 students from Austria, Armenia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, and Turkey. Participants had the opportunity to learn about captivating topics in physics, mathematics, and computer science, introduced by professors from UAIC, as well as from Turkey and Bulgaria, through presentations and practical workshops: optimization algorithms, mixed realities, artificial intelligence and machine learning, cryptography and Internet of Things, chaos and self-organization, mathematical models in life sciences, applications of probability theory, astronomy and interpretation of celestial maps, as well as molecular spectroscopy and high-energy particle physics. Additionally, a session dedicated to the principles of scientific communication was included, aimed at facilitating the clear and engaging transmission of scientific information.

Blended Intensive Programme – Political Culture and International Relations in Times of Crisis: Historical and Conceptual Dimensions

Between 14 – 20 July 2025, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (UAIC), under the coordination of Assoc. Prof. Gabriel LEANCA, PhD, organized the blended intensive programme Political Culture and International Relations in Times of Crisis: Historical and Conceptual Dimensions, attended by 24 students from Austria, Armenia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, and Turkey. The interdisciplinary module aimed to reveal the interdependence between the explanatory models used in political sciences and the methods used in the study of modern and contemporary European history. Theoretical aspects were supplemented by case studies, both from the perspective of relations between states and the functioning of the international system, and from the perspective of political thought, with relevance in conceptualizing the notions of crisis and instability.

Blended Intensive Programme – Tourism, Cultural Heritage, Storytelling, and the Art of Tour Guiding

Between 14 – 20 July 2025, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (UAIC), under the coordination of Lecturer Mihai Bulai, PhD, organized the blended intensive programme Tourism, Cultural Heritage, Storytelling, and the Art of Tour Guiding, attended by 77 participants from Austria, Armenia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, China, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, and Turkey. The programme proposed complex activities: courses, workshops, debates, and guided tours. The themes addressed either the tourism phenomenon as a whole (promoting cultural or natural tourism heritage, integrating new technologies into tourism, the role of climate in current tourism, the importance of rural tourism, the legacy of communism, the importance of the “Dracula” brand, etc.) or tour guiding as a tool for promoting destinations (presentation techniques, structuring the presentation of cultural sites, use of body language, communication skills, storytelling, etc.).

Blended Intensive Programme – Finance and Value Creation for the Future

Between 14 – 20 July 2025, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (UAIC), under the coordination of Assoc. Prof. Silviu URSU, PhD, organized the blended intensive programme Finance and Value Creation for the Future, attended by 30 participants from Austria, Armenia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, and Turkey. The programme provided participants with an introduction to the practical and theoretical aspects of responsible financial decisions made by companies and the essential role of finance in creating long-term value for both the company and its shareholders, as well as for other stakeholders and society as a whole. Through case studies and Excel applications, participants acquired financial analysis and modeling skills, essential for evaluating company performance from the perspective of sustainability and resilience.

Blended Intensive Programme – People, Purpose, and Performance: Transforming HR for Tomorrow’s Workplace

Between 14 – 20 July 2025, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (UAIC), under the coordination of Lecturer Carmen Claudia ARUȘTEI, PhD, organized the blended intensive programme People, Purpose, and Performance: Transforming HR for Tomorrow’s Workplace, attended by 34 students from Austria, Armenia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, and Turkey. Participants had the opportunity to debate the challenges faced by human resources professionals in the main processes related to human resource management in the context of an increasingly uncertain, complex, dynamic, ambiguous, and volatile environment. Participants had the chance to learn about concrete examples of human resource activity transformation in the digital age, as well as to work individually or in multicultural teams to find solutions to the proposed case studies. The activities and role of the HR Business Partner position were emphasized both during classroom activities and during the visit to the Levi9 company.

Blended Intensive Programme – The power of sport: a project for active and healthy living

During the period 12-16 May 2025, the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport organized the blended intensive programme The power of sport: a project for active and healthy living, which brought together 48 students and faculty members from Spain, Turkey, Poland, Greece, Serbia, Lithuania, and Portugal, providing a valuable and interactive educational experience focused on education for an active and healthy life. The programme was coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Știrbu Ilie Cătălin, PhD, and included engaging lectures and practical activities on education for an active and healthy life, supported by our special guests: PhD Asterios Patsiaouras (University of Thessaly, Greece), Dr. Crivoi Petre (Preventis Medical Center Iași), Simionescu Vlăduț, Săcăleanu Vlad, Săcăleanu Ioan, Anton Alin Ionut, Știrbu Ilinca, Crihan Agatha, Coțofrei Sorin. The programme offered a series of courses for acquiring and applying fundamental concepts in the field of strategic communication, international security, and diplomacy, focusing on familiarizing students with the field of international relations and understanding the current challenges of the security environment.

Iaşi, Romania, 24 – 28 March 2025

Between 24 – 28 March 2025, the General Administrative Directorate, under the coordination of Deputy General Administrative Director Mircea Tulică, organized the blended intensive programme Student life challenges and prevention of undesirable situations on campus. Face-to-face meetings with the experts that could enlighten your choices in life!, attended by students and faculty members from 5 countries: Germany, Greece, Latvia, Poland, and Portugal. The general theme of the programme aimed to identify and analyze the most common challenges students face in academic and personal life, from managing stress, anxiety, and social isolation, to risks related to campus safety, risky behaviors, or lack of psychological and emotional support. The programme also addressed the importance of personal development, effective communication, and making informed decisions through direct interactions with specialists from key fields: psychology, security, public health, educational and legal counseling. The theoretical framework of the programme was based on modern concepts in educational psychology, risk behavior prevention, as well as intervention models used in European university environments to create a safe, inclusive environment conducive to the harmonious development of young people. Additionally, the intercultural component contributed to the exchange of best practices between participating institutions, as well as to forming a broader understanding of common challenges and solutions adapted to different cultural contexts.

Blended Intensive Programme – First aid techniques and civil emergency management

Between 17 – 21 February 2025, the General Administrative Directorate, under the coordination of Deputy General Administrative Director Mircea Tulică, organized the blended intensive programme First aid techniques and civil emergency management, attended by 42 participants, including university staff and students from Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Portugal. The programme included: presentations, workshops, study visits, networking activities, cultural events, meetings, and practical demonstrations provided by representatives of the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the National Anti-Drug Agency, the Police, the Department for Labor Protection, and hospitals.

Blended Intensive Programme – “HUMINT 2024 International Student Conference”

Iaşi, Romania, 18 – 22 November 2024

Between 18 – 22 November 2024, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, under the coordination of Assoc. Prof. Ruxandra Ciulu, PhD, organized the blended intensive programme “HUMINT 2024 International Student Conference”, attended by 38 students and 8 faculty members from Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, North Macedonia, and the Netherlands. The programme represented a natural continuation of the HUMINT international student conferences, in which UAIC has participated annually since 2014. BIP participants had the opportunity to understand, analyze, and deepen topics such as diversity and inclusion in organizations. Developing intercultural teamwork skills among students is essential for easy integration into today’s labor market, where borders are disappearing and organizations are integrating globally.

Blended Intensive Programme – Intercultural communication and spiritual backgrounds

Iaşi, Romania, 4 – 8 November 2024

Between 4 – 8 November 2024, the Faculty of Philosophy and Social-Political Sciences, under the coordination of Prof. Mihai Dan Chiţoiu, PhD, organized the blended intensive programme Intercultural communication and spiritual backgrounds. The event addressed multiple aspects and ways of developing intercultural communication skills. Cultural and spiritual frameworks defining geographical areas, communities, as well as the identity of those belonging to such areas or communities, were evaluated and discussed. The principles and contexts of intercultural communication were put into discussion, along with its significance for the current international context. Emphasis was placed on the role of cultural and spiritual values in understanding today’s world and improving ways of communicating interculturally. Practical aspects of intercultural communication were addressed in seminars and workshops, with an emphasis on experiential and dynamic interaction among participants.

Blended Intensive Programme – Social representations and society: the 2024 summer school in social representations, culture and communication

Iaşi, Romania, 8 – 12 July 2024

Between 8 – 12 July 2024, the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences, under the coordination of Teaching Assistant Emilia Pascal, PhD, organized the blended intensive programme Social representations and society: the 2024 summer school in social representations, culture and communication, attended by 18 students from Bulgaria, Greece, Poland, and Portugal. The event included lectures, workshops, and open discussions on the topic of social representations, cultural contexts, and how these influence interactions between individuals. Thus, topics such as addiction (e.g., the problem of gambling), gender disparities in the workplace, European identity, sexuality, and social attitudes were addressed, with special attention to how these objects are represented and communicated in common sense and the influences of these representations on daily behavior.

Blended Intensive Programme – Introduction to Psychological Trauma and Moral Psychology

Between 27 – 31 May 2024, the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences, under the coordination of Lecturer Alexandra Maftei, PhD, organized the blended intensive programme Introduction to Psychological Trauma and Moral Psychology, attended by 42 students and university staff from Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Poland, Slovenia, and Spain. The programme integrated theoretical knowledge, practical tools, and ethical considerations, highlighting both the complexity of the relationship between trauma, moral psychology, and disability, as well as the importance of the emotional health of professionals in these fields. Structured over seven robust modules, the blended intensive programme was designed to equip participants with the tools necessary for recognizing, evaluating, and effectively managing trauma, while deepening the ethical considerations in these fields. Through its holistic approach, the programme aimed to promote a deeper and more empathetic understanding of trauma management, while prioritizing the psychological well-being of professionals in the field.

Blended Intensive Programme – Gender and social inclusion in the humanities

Iaşi, Romania, 20 – 24 May 2024

Between 20 – 24 May 2024, the Faculty of Letters, under the coordination of Teaching Assistant Ştefana Iosif, PhD, organized the blended intensive programme Gender and social inclusion in the humanities, attended by 19 international students from Bulgaria, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Turkey. The event aimed to bring together students from a variety of cultural and educational backgrounds and provide them with a focused environment to address the themes of gender and social inclusion from a multitude of perspectives. Among the topics addressed during the programme, we mention: an overview of feminist ideology and thought, its application in translations and potential references, images, nuances, and problems that may arise; language and linguistic limitations regarding gender and building a socially conscious artificial language; use of the innovative pedagogy developed at Barnard College, Reacting to the Past, to explore the first gender-oriented convention and its limitations through role-playing activities; inclusion promoted through music and music for the brain.

Blended Intensive Programme – Sustainable tourism in regions with a rich natural and cultural heritage

Iaşi, Romania, 22 – 26 April 2024

Between 22 – 26 April 2024, the Faculty of Geography and Geology organized the blended intensive programme Sustainable tourism in regions with a rich natural and cultural heritage, attended by 21 students from Croatia, Portugal, and Spain. The programme was coordinated by Teaching Assistant Vasile Jitariu, PhD, and included a series of courses covering topics such as: Natural and Cultural Heritage; Habitat and Biodiversity Conservation in Natura 2000 sites; Sustainable Tourism in protected areas; Sustainable Tourism in cultural tourist sites. Theoretical courses were interspersed with field applications in Cotnari, Hârlău, the Cucuteni archaeological site museum, the forests and meadows of Mârzeşti, an intercultural workshop “Romanian Gastronomy,” as well as a tour of the city of Iaşi.

Blended Intensive Programme – Sustainable HR Practices

Iaşi, Romania, 15 – 19 April 2024

Between 15 – 19 April 2024, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, under the coordination of Assoc. Prof. Ruxandra Ciulu, PhD, organized the blended intensive programme Sustainable HR Practices, attended by 22 students from Portugal and Belgium. The objectives set for participants in the programme consisted of: knowing the sustainability framework in the human resources field and the applicability of principles in tasks performed by human resources professionals, identifying and sharing with other participants good sustainability practices in the human resources field, strengthening work skills for career development (team interaction, working with technology, practicing English, developing relationships involving cultural sensitivity, and integration into an international team). The programme is considered a natural continuation of the “Sustainable HR Practices” programme held as a first edition in 2023, with the same project partners. In 2023, the host university for the physical component was ISCAP Porto, Portugal.

Blended Intensive Programme – Motor Intelligence Development through Innovative Approaches

Iaşi, Romania, 8 – 12 April 2024

Between 8 – 12 April 2024, the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, under the coordination of Lecturer Iulian Dumitru, PhD, organized the blended intensive programme Motor intelligence development through innovative approaches, attended by 26 students from Poland and Portugal. The programme included a suite of activities, work methods, and interactive tools for improving motor intelligence in working with various age categories (children, adolescents, adults, elderly). Students participated in motor teamwork workshops, communication and partnership games, methodical progressions in managing the complexity of thematic games, games to stimulate applicative-motor intelligence, and management of motor creativity in implementing physical conditioning programmes.

It was quite a good program. I enjoyed everything. Romanian food testing meetings were amazing and liked it the most.
